These sliders have been lightened up and are perfect for a party, as an appetizer, or a lunch.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I had a weekend that included an endless amount of crab legs and lobster tails, a stack of amazing BBQ ribs for breakfast, and countless red velvet cupcakes.
The food was a little heavy, so I couldn’t help but bring something lighter to the table.
You can reduce calories, fat, and saturated fat by substituting ground turkey for ground beef. This is without compromising taste. You won’t even taste the healthiness if you put these in honey wheat slider buns and top them with homemade marinara.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Turkey
- 1/4 cup Panko
- Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup
- Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
- Oregano, 1/2 teaspoon
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes crushed
- One large egg
- Fresh parsley leaves, two tablespoons
- 1 cup of marinara sauce (store-bought, homemade, or store-bought)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
- Toast 8-10 Honey Wheat slider buns for serving
- Basil leaves for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
- Combine ground turkey with Panko, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, parsley, and egg in a large bowl. Stir well with a wooden fork or your hands. The mixture should be rolled into meatballs of about 2 inches in diameter, which will yield 8-10 meatballs.
- Place the meatballs on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are fully cooked.
- Preheat oven to broil.
- Place one meatball on each bun and add a small amount of marinara. Place mozzarella on top and place in oven. Bake until the cheese is melted.
- Serve immediately. Top with 1-2 basil leaves and cover with the slider tops.
